Make the Case for Preservation: The Preservation Economic Impact Model

Preservation Equals Jobs! In recent years this rallying cry echoed across the country and preservationists have looked to develop new tools and resources to make the case for preservation at the local, regional and national level. Now there’s a tool that can help you figure out the impact of projects in your area.

The Preservation Economic Impact Model (PEIM), created by the Center for Urban Policy Research at Rutgers University, forecasts the total economic effects of the rehabilitation of commercial historic buildings. PEIM employs a multiplier methodology that calculates job creation, employee wages, and state and local tax benefits generated from a historic rehabilitation investment based on key project characteristics. Explore our “Services” tab to learn more about the PEIM model and to download it today.
